Ready, Set, Grill!!!

Memorial Day marks the official start of grilling season and outdoor or backyard BBQs!


Memorial Day is also a day to remember and honor those who have lost their lives in military service.  The younger kids may be too little to understand about war and the loss of loved ones in past wars or putting flowers on grave sites — so, you may want to combine some patriotic flare – with the backyard BBQ event.

Some kids Memorial Day activities could include:

• Decorating the kids bikes in red, white and blue streamers so they’ll be festive in the neighborhood riding around
• Carrying American flags with them to the local Memorial Day parade
• Bringing patriotic themed cookies to the Veterans Hospital — or, if that’s too much for the little ones, just decorating the cookies will be a fun Memorial Day activity — and then there is always eating them!!!
• If the kids like blue cheese — you can get them to make a Red (ketchup/tomato), White (onion, mayo, white cheese), and Blue (blue cheese) Hamburger or Veggie Burger!  This gets to incorporate the grilling with the Memorial Day patriotic theme
